TCU, BJMP-NCR eye education program for PDLs
MANILA, Philippines — Taguig City University (TCU) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-National Capital Region (BJMP-NCR) have started talks on providing persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) access to education, training and skills-building programs.
The consultation focused on the possible offering of academic programs by TCU in support of BJMP’s College Education Behind Bars program, part of the bureau’s rehabilitation and reintegration initiatives.
Also discussed were livelihood and entrepreneurship training, skills enhancement programs and values formation.
Present at the meeting were TCU Vice President for Academics, Research, and Extension Albert Madrigal and other university officials, Jail Chief Inspector Gloria Manzano of the female dormitory, Jail Chief Inspector Arvin Antonio of the male dormitory and other BJMP officers.
TCU President Raymundo Arcega said the university has a role in educating not only free youth but also those deprived of liberty.
Both TCU and BJMP expressed optimism that the talks would lead to programs aimed at transforming lives through education.
