Leandro Leviste distributes over 150,000 relief packs to typhoon Kristine survivors in Batangas
Batangas, Philippines – In response to the devastation brought by Typhoon Kristine, Leandro Legarda Leviste has provided over 150,000 relief packs to residents across western Batangas, aiming to support communities severely impacted by the recent storm. Leviste, recognized as one of the country’s youngest billionaire entrepreneurs, quickly mobilized relief efforts, beginning distributions on October 23, 2024.
Typhoon Kristine brought unprecedented flooding to the towns of Balayan, Calatagan, Lemery, Lian, Nasugbu, Taal, Tuy, and the city of Calaca, displacing thousands and causing extensive damage. The relief packs, coordinated through Leviste’s Lingkod Legarda Leviste Foundation, reached all 284 barangays in the affected areas, delivering essentials to families struggling with the storm’s aftermath.
Beyond immediate relief, Leviste has also launched efforts to support long-term recovery, distributing construction materials to families with partially or fully destroyed homes. His personal funding of the relief operations highlights an urgent response to the needs of his home province, especially as local government resources remain constrained in responding to large-scale natural disasters.
Leviste’s contribution exceeds the total number of relief packs previously distributed by government agencies across the entire province. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, there are 155,978 households in western Batangas, marking Leviste’s contribution as one of the largest single relief efforts in the area.
Local leaders, including Nasugbu Mayor Antonio Barcelon, expressed deep appreciation for Leviste’s assistance. Mayor Barcelon noted, “Taospuso kaming nagpapasalamat kay Ginoong Leandro ‘Lean’ Legarda Leviste sa kaniyang mga naipahatid na tulong sa mga nasalanta ng Bagyong si Kristine.”
With Batangas now under a state of calamity, ongoing relief and reconstruction initiatives remain crucial. The Lingkod Legarda Leviste Foundation continues to monitor needs in the region, committed to assisting Batangueños as they rebuild from the storm.
