Taiwan gives US$150,000 aid for victims of Kristine
MANILA — Taiwan on Thursday donated US$150,000 to help victims of severe tropical storm Kristine that hit the Philippines recently, killing over 100 Filipinos and displacing hundreds of thousands of people.
Ambassador Wallace Chow, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) to the Philippines, sincerely expressed his deep condolences to Chairperson and Resident Representative Cheloy E. Velicaria-Garafil of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO).
Ambassador Chow handed over the fund aid to Garafil to support the Department of Social Welfare and Development of the Philippines in its continuous provision of essential supplies, medical assistance, and other forms of support to help the affected families rebuild their homes and return to their normal lives.
“In times of hardship, solidarity and compassion bind us together, and Taiwan stands with our friends in the Philippines,” said Mr. Chow during the donation ceremony.
He added: “Disasters like this remind us all of our shared humanity and the importance of standing together in times of trial. Taiwan is committed to being a true friend and reliable partner to the Philippines, ready to extend a helping hand whenever needed.”
Ambassador Chow assured the Philippine government that the Taiwan government and TECO in the Philippines will continue to closely monitor developments and maintain contact with relevant Philippine government agencies to provide necessary assistance in a timely manner.
