Bostik Philippines warns vs proliferation of counterfeit Super Vulcaseal; says use of fake elastomeric sealants harms safety of structures
Bostik Philippines Inc., the country’s leading adhesives manufacturer, has warned the public about the proliferation of counterfeit elastomeric sealants carrying several names of its brands, saying its use puts in jeopardy the safety and integrity of structures.
In a statement, Bostik Philippines Inc. vowed to go after individuals and organizations found to have been distributing and selling counterfeit sealants that carried the brand name Super Vulcaseal Elastomeric Sealant, one of the most-recognizable elastomeric sealants in the market.
“The proliferation of counterfeit Super Vulcaseal Elastomeric taints the reputation of our company, a name we have built and protected throughout the years. We are determined to protect the good name of our brands by putting an end to the operations of nefarious individuals who manufacture, distribute, and retail fake Bostik products,” the company said.
“As these were made outside our manufacturing facilities, Bostik cannot guarantee its quality, thus jeopardizing the safety of structures where these counterfeit products were used,” it continued.
The company said it sought the assistance from the National Bureau of Investigation which probed into the illicit trade of counterfeit elastomeric sealants. After months of case buildup and surveillance, authorities busted four warehouses in Caloocan City in November last year that yielded millions of pesos worth of fake Super Vulcaseal products.
Republic Act No. 7394 or the Consumer Protection Act of the Philippines describes counterfeit products as “any consumer product which, or the container or labeling of which, without authorization, bears the trademark, trade name, or other identifying mark, imprint, or device, or any likeness thereof, of a consumer product manufacturer, processor, packer, distributor, other than the person or persons who in fact manufactured, processed, packed or distributed such product and which thereby falsely purports or is represented to be the product of, or to have been packed or distributed by such consumer product manufacturer, processor, packer, or distributor.”
The company assured the public it remained undeterred by the proliferation of counterfeit Super Vulcaseal products.
“Our company is determined to exhaust all available legal remedies to prosecute all individuals and entities selling counterfeit Bostik products. We will not allow these individuals to put the consuming public in harm’s way by using fake Super Vulcaseal products,” it said.
The company said the public could send photos or information about counterfeit Bostik products through its customer contact hotline at (02) 7900-5656 or email [email protected].
