Eternal Happiness convention draws 5,500 in Laguna

MANILA, Philippines — More than 5,500 people attended the three-day “Eternal Happiness” Bible-based convention at the Jose Rizal Coliseum in Calamba, Laguna, over the weekend, bringing together disaster relief volunteers and families they had assisted during times of crisis.
Among those who attended were disaster victims and members of the Disaster Relief Committee (DRC) of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Philippines, who reunited after working together in disaster response efforts.
“They want to know how to be happy and how to remain happy despite economic uncertainty,” said James Morales, spokesperson for Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Philippines.
Morales said the free three-day conventions, being held at 92 venues nationwide, aim to inspire people to lead more meaningful and satisfying lives by applying Bible principles.
Jehovah’s Witnesses are known for their door-to-door ministry, sharing Bible-based messages with people from different faiths, cultures, and backgrounds. Morales said the group’s concern for communities also extends beyond preaching through disaster relief efforts.
According to a statement on the official Jehovah’s Witnesses website, jw.org, the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses has established Disaster Relief Committees in its 84 branch offices serving 241 lands to coordinate relief efforts whenever disasters strike.
“Jehovah’s Witnesses provide practical relief assistance to both Witnesses and non-Witnesses in harmony with the Bible’s instruction at Galatians 6:10: ‘Let us work what is good toward all, but especially toward those related to us in the faith.’ We also try to give the emotional and spiritual support that victims sorely need at such times,” the statement said.
Morales said Jehovah’s Witnesses are holding 172 conventions in 15 languages, including Filipino Sign Language, across 88 cities nationwide.
As part of the program, the conventions feature Episodes 4, 5, and 6 of the 18-episode video series, “The Good News According to Jesus,” which is shown free of charge.
Morales said the production offers an accurate, Gospel-based depiction of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.
