4 newcomers, 5 incumbents, 3 ex-senators land in Tangere’s ‘Magic 12’ senatorial survey

MANILA, Philippines – Four newcomers, five incumbents, and three former senators made it to the ‘Magic 12’ of the most recent senatorial survey conducted by the technology-driven marketing research group Tangere.

Former Social Welfare Secretary and incumbent ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo topped the survey conducted from August 13-16 with a voter preference rating of 56.29 percent.

Meanwhile, his elder brother, broadcaster Ben Tulfo, garnered a voter preference rate of 40.63%, good for sixth place.

Other “new names” in the senatorial poll include former president Rodrigo Duterte, who took second spot with a 47.83% voter preference rate, and Dr. Willie Ong, who placed 12th with a 31.50% voter preference rate.

Meanwhile, the five incumbents who landed in the ‘Magic 12’ are as follows: Senators Pia Cayetano (No. 3, 44.50% voter preference rate); Bong Go (No.5, 43.08% preference rate); Lito Lapid (No.8, 34.71% voter preference rate); Imee Marcos (No.10, 33.04% voter preference rate); and Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino (No.. 11, 32.00% voter preference rate).

The former senators who barged into the Top 12 include former Senate President Vicente ‘Tito’ Sotto III (No.4, 43.50% voter preference rate); former world boxing champion and senator Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Pacquiao (No.7, 38.04% voter preference rate); and former Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo ‘Ping’ Lacson (No. 9, 33.33% voter preference rate).

The Tangere national survey was administered using a mobile-based respondent app with a sample size of 2,400 participants, and a +/- 1.96% margin of error at a 95% confidence level.

The survey used a stratified random sampling method (quota based sampling) that was spread throughout the Philippines, with 12 percent from the National Capital Region, 23 percent from Northern Luzon, 22 percent from Southern Luzon, 20 percent from Visayas, and 23 percent from Mindanao.
