Top gov’t execs excel in latest independent annual review

As the Philippines navigated the challenges of 2023, the leadership of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Vice President Sara Duterte, Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, and House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez took center stage. The RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMD) conducted the study through the “Boses ng Bayan” initiative, shedding light on the public’s perception of these key figures and the legislative bodies.
The independent survey, led by Global Affairs Analyst Dr. Paul Martinez, examined the collective and individual performances of the top officials, evaluating their effectiveness in managing national affairs and executing policy decisions.
Incorporating both the executive and legislative branches, the study provided a comprehensive overview of the highest tiers of government throughout the year.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. emerged with an overall score of 80%, showcasing strong regional variations. The Balance of Luzon recorded an impressive 84.70%, while the Visayas and Mindanao followed closely with scores of 79.02% and 75.98%, respectively.
The National Capital Region offered a more critical view at 71.72%. Marcos secured a robust trust rating of 83%, reflecting widespread confidence in his leadership.
Vice President Sara Duterte received a performance rating of 78%, with Mindanao expressing the highest approval at 82.86%. The Balance of Luzon and the Visayas followed with scores of 78% and 76.77%, while the National Capital Region presented the lowest at 70.42%. A trust score of 80% underlined diverse regional assessments of her performance.
Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri achieved a 75% job approval, with a trust rating of 78%. His leadership contributed to a 78% satisfaction score for the Senate of the Philippines, coupled with an elevated trust rating of 80%.
House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez received a satisfaction score of 77% for 2023, accompanied by a trust rating of 79%. The House of Representatives, under his leadership, garnered a satisfaction level of 73% and a trust rating of 75%.
The survey, conducted from December 27, 2023, to January 5, 2024, engaged 10,000 adult Filipinos across cities and regions, providing an accurate representation of national sentiment. Top concerns among Filipinos included poverty alleviation (28%), economic stability (23%), social welfare improvements (18%), and job creation (15%).
Martinez emphasized that the survey not only assesses the current administration but also serves as a roadmap for addressing critical issues. The “Boses ng Bayan” study is more than just data; it reflects the Filipino voice, offering crucial insights for responsive governance attuned to the people’s needs and aspirations.
