Arayat FC captures silver in La Liga Youth Tournament
The Arayat Football Club has bagged the silver medal at the recently concluded La Liga Youth Tournament U12 Division, turning the global spotlight on the Philippines’ youth football scene and bringing pride to the Filipino nation.
The young athletes’ second place podium finish is an improvement from their bronze victory place last year, which was the Philippines’ first in the youth tournament.
The Arayat FC’s lineup included Anaiah Sotto, Angelo Fernando, Tiago Elviña, Jof Peña, Rafa Cadiena, Scott Gibbs, Vito Gutierrez, Matthew Zamora, Raiden Belmonte, Liam Cruz, Liam Martinez and Max Villavicencio.
They were coached professional football player Hamed Hajimehdi.
This year’s tournament was participated in by 52 teams: 10 teams in the Under 8, 12 teams in the Under 10, 12 teams in the Under 12, 10 teams in the Under 14, and 8 teams in the Under 16. The teams were from seven countries – Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, and the Philippines.
This year’s three-day La Liga Youth football carnival was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from September 15 to 17, 2023. It was open to all age groups from Under 8 to Under 16 (Boys & Girls).
The competition is deemed one of the most important grassroots football tournament in Asia.
