QC wants strong sports program
The Quezon City government has launched a city-wide basketball league program to kick off its sports grassroots initiative aimed at keeping the youth off the streets and from the menace of illegal drugs use.
The basketball league undertaking was rolled out on July 22, 2023 at the Amoranto Sports Complex and was participated in by 116 Barangay Teams with almost 3000 people in attendance, composed of Athletes, Families and Barangay Officials.
Vice Mayor Gian Sotto tossed the ball to signal the opening of the league. Vice Mayor Sotto was the one who launched this program, which paves the way for grass roots program in QC.
The basketball league is one of the many athletics activities that the city government is offering to residents under its QC Sports City-wide Grassroots Program that is aimed at encouraging the city’s youth to engage in sports activities for their personal development.
The program offers participants the opportunity to become future athlete champions of the country through sports programs and trainings that are fully supported by the city government.
“Kahit sa anong larangan ng sports na gusto ng ating kabataan, our vision and goal is to be their partner in this journey and to mold them into becoming outstanding athletes of the city and the nation,” said Sotto.
“We are truly grateful to God for blessing us with a very successful launch of this event. Kaya’t tara na’t ipagpugay at patuloy na suportahan ang ating mga manlalarong kabataan sa grassroots program na ito. Let us keep focused on our goal to serve God by serving one another, lifting each other up, especially the future champions of our nation,” added Vice Mayor Gian Sotto.
