COA bags 2 gender equality awards

The Commission on Audit (COA) was given two awards for gender sensitivity by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) recently.
The awards—Gender and Development Transformation and Institutionalization through Mainstreaming of Programs, Agenda, Linkages and Advocacies (GADtimpala)—were given at a ceremony last Aug. 14 at the Samsung Hall in Taguig City.
COA got the gold for Outstanding Gender Responsive Agency award for its gender mainstreaming programs. The agency also got gold for the GAD Focal Point System award for promoting gender equality and women empowerment.
The GADtimpala Award recognizes entities, government agencies and local government units for promoting gender equality and protection of women’s rights.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louisa Araneta-Marcos, in video messages, congratulated the awardees.
“I hope that what you have shown and continue to show will inspire us all in our unending efforts for the empowerment of our people no matter their gender,” the President said in his message.
“Let the success of our colleagues be a reminder of our power to continue making our nation more inclusive for the present and succeeding generations,” the President added.
The First Lady said she was congratulating the awardees “for championing workplace gender equality and women empowerment.”
COA Chair Gamaliel A. Cordoba and other COA officials were present to accept the awards.
The two awards, Cordoba said, “represent the hard work and commitment of everyone in the commission to successfully mainstream gender and development into COA’s mandate.”
“It is the result of more than two decades of conscious advocacy in the commission,” Cordoba said.
The award ceremony was held on the anniversary of enactment of the Magna Carta for Women, which PCW head Kristine Rosary E. Yuzon-Chavez described as as a huge triumph for Philippine women.
