ASA Philippines launches Tabang Financing Program to support microentrepreneurs amid rising fuel crisis

ASA Philippines Foundation, a leading microfinance institution serving over 2.4 million entrepreneurial mothers nationwide, recently launched its Tabang (Help) Financing Program.
This crisis-response initiative is designed to provide immediate, temporary financial relief to clients struggling with the rising costs of fuel and the resulting economic disruptions.
Recognizing the ripple effect of fuel price hikes in basic commodities and operational logistics, ASA Philippines introduced ‘Tabang’ to ensure that the livelihoods of Filipino families remain sustainable during periods of economic hardship.
“The ongoing fuel crisis has had a tremendous impact on the daily lives of Filipino families, particularly our ‘nanay’ clients who are working tirelessly to keep their households afloat,” says Rapa Lopa, ASA Philippines President and CEO. “We hope that this program provides the necessary breathing room to help them manage not just their businesses but their essential expenses during these difficult times.”
Tailored Support for High-risk Industries
The Tabang Financing Program specifically targets ASA women microentrepreneur clients in sectors most vulnerable to energy price volatility. Priority is given to:
- Transport and logistics: Tricycle and jeepney operators
- Agriculture and fisheries: Farmers and fishers reliant on diesel and gasoline for
machinery and motorized boats - Food and retail: Carinderia owners, food processing proprietors and sari-sari store
vendors - Market vendors and Tourism operators
