Dr. Elmer G. Punzalan to receive outstanding alumni scientist award
MANILA — Dr. Elmer G. Punzalan (BS General Science 1979), Assistant Secretary of the Department of Health, will receive the Thomasian Outstanding Alumni Scientist Tribute (TOAST) Award for government and public service category during the Grand Alumni Homecoming of the University of Santo Tomas College of Science on March 2, 2019.
As one of the inspiring 100 Outstanding Thomasian Alumni Scientists, Dr. Punzalan is acclaimed for his trailblazing and visionary approach in improving the Philippine health system, according to a Facebook post.
The organizational improvements he installed in the Department of Health have given Filipinos, especially the poor and underserved, a better ground to entrust their health and wellbeing to, the FB post noted.
His exemplary performance of his duties to uplift the situation in DOH is an accountability he has addressed, thereby upholding the best interest of the Filipino public when it comes to health. His spirit of compassion is an admirable trait true to of notable Thomasian Scientist, the post added.
