Ancop North B charity dinner highlights CFC’s scholarship program

Couples for Christ’s NB Sector Governance Team members pose during the charity dinner held recently at Don Enrique Clubhouse in Quezon City.
MANILA, Philippines — Each semester, Daniel Don returns to school unsure whether there will be enough money to cover his fees—but he shows up anyway. He comes with quiet determination, holding on to his dream of finishing college and knowing there is a place he can turn to for help.
The 20-year-old Information Technology student at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines has been a scholar of a foundation called Ancop — which stands for Answering the Cry of the Poor — since Grade 7. Now in his third year, Daniel relies on the scholarship to help cover expenses his family cannot always afford.
The fifth of six children, he does his best to help stretch the income of his father, a family driver, and his mother, who sells plants in Project 2, Quezon City. There are times when school fees pile up and money runs short.
“May mga bayarin sa school na kailangang bayaran. Minsan wala ring maibigay ang mga magulang ko. Doon ko kinukuha sa Ancop allowance ko (“There are school fees that need to be paid. Sometimes my parents can’t provide the money. I get it from my Ancop allowance),” he said.
Like Daniel, Jennifer Arranchado has also been able to pursue her education through the foundation’s support. An Ancop scholar since 2016, she is now a fourth-year Education major in Industrial Arts at the same university. The daughter of a factory worker, Jennifer said the scholarship eased her family’s financial burden and brought her closer to her dream of becoming a teacher.
“Sa tulong ng Ancop, malapit na po ako maging ganap na guro (With the help of Ancop, I am close to becoming a full-fledged teacher),” she shared, expressing hope that she can one day support future scholars.
The Ancop Foundation is the social development arm of Couples for Christ (CFC), a Catholic lay movement founded in the Philippines that focuses on family renewal and evangelization. Through its scholarship program, the foundation provides educational assistance to underprivileged youth from elementary to college. In the CFC North B Sector alone, 143 scholars are currently being supported.
Extending help
The foundation’s programs are funded by individual and corporate sponsors, as well as the Ancop Global Walk—a yearly fundraising event where participants walk to raise donations for scholars and community projects. Local and international partners, including NGOs, schools, parishes, and archdioceses, also help sustain the mission. Community projects in underserved areas are carried out by local teams under the supervision of the Ancop National Education Program.
Recently, to help sustain its programs and raise additional funds for scholars, the CFC North B Sector held a charity dinner titled “A Love to Last, A Love to Share” at the Don Enrique Heights Clubhouse in Quezon City. Members of the CFC community, elders, corporate sponsors, and generous donors gathered for the event. The evening, which also served as a post-Valentine celebration, was filled with gratitude and hope—a heartfelt thanksgiving for everyone who continues to share their blessings and extend help to those in need.
Rene Mendoza, North B Ancop Sector Head, shared that the recent Ancop Global Walk held in October 2025 at the Quirino Grandstand raised P3.9 million. In his welcome remarks, he emphasized that each contribution represents more than financial support—it offers hope, opportunity, and a bridge to a brighter future for deserving students and families striving for education and success.
“The P3.9 million raised is more than a sum—it is ‘Isang Tulay,’ a bridge connecting dreams to reality; a bridge between a student’s potential and a classroom desk, between a family’s struggle and a child’s graduation, between hope and the leaders our society needs,” Rene said.
“By giving, you haven’t just given money; you’ve given a future. You’ve shown hundreds of young dreamers that their circumstances do not define their destination. Because when we walk together, we don’t just move—we change lives.”
Amid the growing needs of underprivileged families, the organizers underscored the urgency of raising funds to support not only education but also the basic necessities of children and communities in need. The event’s goal, they stressed, is to transform generosity into concrete assistance—support that creates a lasting and immeasurable impact.
As Roy dela Rosa, Area Ancop Head, put it: “We gather not just for a fundraiser, but to affirm a love that lasts and a love that shares—because every contribution becomes hope for a child and tangible support for a family in need.”
For Daniel and Jennifer, the scholarship is more than financial aid. It is a bridge toward graduation—and, they hope, toward a future where they can give back, becoming the very kind of blessing that once carried them through.
