Innovation and human ingenuity take center stage in the Philippine geothermal industry
The 6th Philippine International Geothermal Conference
MANILA, Philippines — The National Geothermal Association of the Philippines (NGAP) will host the 6th Philippine International Geothermal Conference (PIGC6) on September 10-11, 2025 at The Fifth at Rockwell, R5 Level Power Plant Mall, Plaza Drive, Rockwell Center, Makati City, Metro Manila.
PIGC6, “Flash Point: Igniting Human Ingenuity and Geothermal Innovation,” will serve as a venue for the exchange of strategies, innovation, and insights focused on advancing sustainable geothermal development in the Philippines.
The conference also provides valuable networking opportunities designed to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among key players and stakeholders in the industry.
The event also highlights NGAP’s ongoing commitment to promoting geothermal energy as a key component of the nation’s sustainable energy mix. It is hosted in partnership with the Philippine Department of Energy (DOE) and the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE), the trade development and economic agency of New Zealand.
The theme was crowdsourced from its membership. Session names were also given a twist, representing different topic categories within the program with Filipino values and traits despite the typically international audience present.
The program includes: Strategies for reliable generation, Innovative methods on exploration, development, and production phases, Synergy with other industries, Emerging Technologies, Philippine Case Studies, and Environmental, Social and Governance Concerns.
It is supported by major companies such as Energy Development Corporation, Maibarara Geothermal, Inc., Aboitiz Power Corporation, Philippine Geothermal Power Corporation, Wise Industrial Systems (Belzona), Schlumberger NV, Solenis, RNUABLE Energy Corporation, Metal One Corporation, Marubeni-Itochu Tubulars Asia, Welkin Oilfield and Industrial Supplies Corporation (NOV), Vallourec, and 2GO, among others. These companies recognize that the local geothermal industry remains thriving and is poised to play a larger role in the Philippines’ energy targets. Recent results of the Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP3) revealed that 30.9 MW of geothermal capacity was awarded contracts.
To further support geothermal development, the DOE has been driving the establishment of the Philippine Geothermal Resource De-Risking Facility in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). This fund aims to mitigate the risks related to geothermal exploration, one of the primary hurdles in the industry’s growth.
During the 5th PIGC, DOE Assistant Secretary Mylene C. Capongcol highlighted that, “By addressing the existing challenges and implementing the recommended actions, we can unlock the full potential of the clean and sustainable energy resource.”
The Philippines is the third largest producer of geothermal energy globally, after the US and Indonesia.
The National Geothermal Association of the Philippines, Inc. (NGAP) is a scientific, educational, and professional organization that represents the geothermal sector stakeholders in the Philippines. Our mission is to advocate, facilitate and harmonize the global and national research, development and application of geothermal resources. NGAP is a non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit organization.
