Bersamin receives Blue Economy Report, vows to submit to Marcos

MANILA, Philippines — Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin received the final report titled “The Philippine Blue Economy: Moving Forward” from key development leaders, signaling renewed government support for the proposed Blue Economy Act.

The report was formally handed over by Edicio de la Torre, president of the Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement (PRRM), and former National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Director General Dr. Cielito Habito, representing the FVR Legacy Initiative.

The comprehensive document consolidates the insights and policy recommendations drawn from a series of roundtable discussions with stakeholders across various sectors of the blue economy — including fisheries, aquaculture, marine-based industries, energy, marine transport, and coastal and marine tourism. Nearly 300 participants from across the country took part in the consultations, which culminated in a plenary session attended by Bersamin.

Expressing appreciation for the collaborative effort, Bersamin affirmed Malacañang’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote sustainable marine development. He also vowed to submit the report to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for consideration.
