Globe works with DENR and LGU volunteers for Boracay beach clean-up
In line with its continued commitment to environmental sustainability and community partnerships, Globe participated in Boracay’s conservation efforts through a beach clean-up drive at Barangay Balabag, Malay on May 3, 2025.
Over 80 volunteers from Globe, Barangay Balabag, Department of Environment and National Resources (DENR), and Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) rolled up their sleeves to take part in the effort by contributing time and energy to ensure Boracay’s beaches remain clean, vibrant, and welcoming for all. Volunteers were able to collect 15 sacks of waste from the beach, composed mostly of plastic, that can cause harm to marine animals, pollute coastal waters, and destroy the marine ecosystem in Boracay.
“Globe has always believed in the power of collaboration to create lasting impact. By joining hands with the LGU of Malay, we hope to inspire more people, locals and tourists alike, to take responsibility for the environment and be part of the movement for sustainable tourism,” said Kiss Ekong, Sector Business Head for Visayas and Mindanao at Globe.
Cleaning the shores ties into bigger goals—like protecting marine life and fighting the effects of climate change in support of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water, which focuses on protecting our oceans, seas, and marine life from pollution and degradation. By joining local efforts like this, Globe hopes to spark more collective action to protect the environment.
In the past, the company has helped lead efforts in coral reef rehabilitation, offshore clean-up drives, and community education to prevent pollution and protect marine life. Globe also helped inaugurate a communal septic tank, contributing to improved sanitation on the island in 2018.
The beach clean-up is also one of many volunteer activities at Globe. In 2024 alone, more than 3,000 employees dedicated their time and skills to various initiatives such as relief goods repacking, digital skills training for the elderly, nutrition and anti-bullying education for students, and environmental efforts such as tree planting and coastal clean-ups.
Through efforts like these, Globe remains committed to protecting the places we call home, supporting not just connectivity, but also the communities and natural ecosystems that make each destination truly meaningful.
