QC District 1 Warriors PH opens CLS League U-23 with rout of Thailand

The District Warriors Philippines of Quezon City’s first district competes for pride and glory in the 2024 Cahaya Lestari Surabaya (CLS) League Under-23 Senior Division in Surabaya, Indonesia, this June.

The District Warriors Philippines of Quezon City’s first district started its campaign on a high note after routing the Shoot it Dragons of Thailand, 110-65, on the opening day of the 2024 Cahaya Lestari Surabaya (CLS) League Under-23 Senior Division in Surabaya, Indonesia on June 18.

The Filipino hoopers currently have a 1-0 win-loss record in the league and will be fighting for pride and glory when they compete this week against five top club teams from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Australia in a single-round robin format.

The District Warriors Philippines consists of Ryan Arceo, who scored 20 points; Danren Nepomuceno and Christian Jake Agoncillo, who both tallied 19 points each; and Christian Ang, who added 14 points in the first game; as well as Joeben Loria, Yojan Ang, Patrick Buena, Andrei Diaz, Jeremiah Guzman, Warren Calara, and JR Lastra,

It is coached by Dale Lacorte and Vis Valencia and includes coordinator Carl Lorenz Eserjose.

Quezon City 1st District Rep. Juan Carlos “Arjo” Atayde said, “This team is composed of Quezon City first district’s top talented players, who were selected in the series of tryouts and the ongoing D1 Basketball League.”

“I believe they play with a lot of pride, and I have faith that they can bring home the championship.”

A well-known sports aficionado, Atayde is a member of the Youth and Sports Development Committee in the House of Representatives.

“The Philippines is a basketball-loving nation that has talented and skillful players in all of our 7,000-plus islands. This includes our district, and we are more than happy to support them in this overseas campaign,” he said.

Atayde will arrive in Indonesia on Friday, June 21, to support the District Warriors Philippines and cheer them on in their quest for a championship.

The District Warriors Philippines are set to play against NS Matrix Malaysia, BBM CLS Knights, MBC Malaysia, and ACBA Tigers Sydney from June 19-22, 2024.
