1st MECO Fil-Tai invitational tees off Wednesday
The Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) is set to launch a campaign to help boost Philippine tourism through golf.
MECO on Wednesday (April 17) will host the first MECO Fil-Tai Invitation golf tournament that will entice Taiwanese golfers to play in the Philippines.
It would be held at the Summit Point Golf and Country Club in Lipa City, Batangas in a three-course friendly golf games to end on Friday (April 19).
The tournament has already drawn more than 80 Taiwanese and Filipino executives and business leaders who will also play at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyong on the second leg of the games.
Special prizes and surprise gifts await winners of the tournament on the final day at the Pradera Verde Golf Club in Lubao, Pampanga.
MECO chairman Silvestre H. Hello III and Representative Wallace Minn-Gan Chow of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines will hold the ceremonial tee off representing competing teams from the Philippines and Taiwan.
“We hope to contribute to the growth of our local tourism industry. We had thought that golf tourism is a good initiative as it will also help further enhance our friendly relations with Taiwan,” Bello said.
“MECO is also looking at other non-traditional approaches to tourism promotion for the country which we will introduce in the near future,” Bello said.
All participants in the tournament will pay the costs of the games, including green fees.
