Leyte Rep. Richard Gomez remains undeterred by politics or the coming elections, saying serving the people in his district is his first priority.

This came after former Associate Justice Vicente Veloso III has declared to join the congressional race in Leyte’s fourth district in the coming 2025 midterm elections.

Gomez, the incumbent congressman for the fourth district, emphasized his dedication to serving his constituents and assured that he would not be swayed from fulfilling his responsibilities to ensure their welfare.

“My focus is on addressing the concerns of the people in my district,” Gomez stated, emphasizing his commitment to combating illegal activities perpetrated by local officials across various municipalities.

“It is my duty to safeguard the interests of the fourth district of Leyte and protect them from the self-serving actions of politicians who prioritize personal gain over public welfare.”

Refusing to align himself with individuals involved in unlawful practices merely because of their official titles, Gomez asserted, “I serve the common good, not the interests of corrupt officials. I will not ignore their wrongdoing in exchange for their support. I stand firm in upholding what is just and right.”

Despite facing political maneuvers from those he has held accountable for their actions, Gomez remains resolute. “I will not succumb to intimidation tactics or political alliances aimed at shielding criminals. My commitment is unwavering, and I will continue to uphold the law and fight for the welfare of my constituents.”

Highlighting the concerning situation in neighboring districts, Gomez pointed out the prevalence of violence and criminal activities, particularly in Leyte’s third congressional district. Recent incidents, including the killings of village officials, underscore the urgent need for enhanced security measures.

“In the face of legal threats and political attacks, I stand undeterred,” Gomez affirmed. “I will remain vigilant in protecting my constituents from the influence of corrupt individuals. The fourth district of Leyte will not become a haven for criminality under my watch.”
