AFP troops urged to continue being an inspiration to youth

Quezon City 1st District Rep. Juan Carlos “Arjo” Atayde has encouraged members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to continue being an inspiration to the youth through their service to the nation.

On the occasion of celebrations for National Heroes Day, one military unit and 10 AFP personnel were honored at the “Tribute to Soldiers,” which was organized to raise public awareness of the extraordinary and everyday heroism as well as the sacrifices of Filipino soldiers.

Among those awarded for their Contribution to the Combat Zone were SSg Daryl B. Gacad, Philippine Air Force (PAF); Sgt William B. Tello Jr. (MI), Philippine Army (PA); and S2IT Jaime V. Caguioa Jr., Philippine Navy (PN). For Innovation in Administrative and Logistics Functions: TSg Bernard L. Magpantay, PAF;  SSg Roseller D. Gozo (SC), PA; and DP2 Dizon G. Vallesteros, PN.

For Outstanding Community Service, the awardees were TSg Liezel A. Eranista, PAF; Sgt Ephraim B. Mission Jr  (INF), PA; and SSgt Michael S. Rayanon (M), PN. And for her Achievement in Education, YN2 Lilane I. Muring, PN.

Meanwhile, PAF’s Tactical Operations Group 7 was awarded as the Best Unit.

“You are all an inspiration; you have provided the nation with different services most of the time. And we do believe in your service,” said Atayde, a guest of honor and presenter at the event held at the Manila Hotel. “Thank you for the sacrifices.”

“I am hoping our youth will receive the opportunities to be inspired not to think that defending is just all about war. Because it’s also about camaraderie and our love for our country,” he added.

Aside from Atayde, Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio, AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr., and other distinguished guests graced the event.
