True elegance lies in the perfect balance of flavors with Martell’s newest cognacs
One of the leading Cognac producers, Martell introduced its newest products, the Martell VSOP Aged in Red Barrels and Martell VS Single Distillery. Hosted by brand ambassador Jean Baptiste Gourvil, guests enjoyed dinner and Cognac tasting which highlighted the products’ unique balance of flavors that pair well with delicacies of various cuisines.
Known for elegance and sophistication, Martell cognacs are produced with the use of fine-grained oak barrels and double distillation of clear wines (without sediments) that have become the signature of the fine Martell taste. Throughout its 300-year history, the House of Martell has constantly explored new territories, from geography—it was the first cognac house to export to the United States in 1783—to design and taste. Now, its spirit of curiosity has resulted in an exciting new cognac which offers a deeper exploration of the unique Martell distillation style.
Martell VS Single Distillery takes this exacting approach further still, since each bottle is blended from eaux-de-vie from carefully selected distilleries in the Cognac region. These share the same sensorial profile and taste characteristics which blend in perfect harmony resulting in richer cognacs. This liquid gold caresses the palate with intense notes of plum, apricot, and candied lemon. Inspired by Martell’s heritage of craftsmanship, the bottle of Martell VS Single Distillery is a contemporary interpretation of a “montre”—the traditional sampling bottle used for cognac. Proudly bearing the iconic Martell swift emblem, its simple yet elegant design is complemented by and artisanal cap with a visible cork and a beige colored ribbon. The bottle’s textured white label with discrete gold edges is printed with the arms of the House and the signature of founder Jean Martell. From its rich taste to its refined design, Martell VS Single Distillery is thus a pure expression of authentic Martell style.
The new Martell VSOP Aged In Red Barrels carry a heightened feature that gives a pivotal experience to the discerning connoisseur. Unlike others, the full ageing of eaux de vie is done only in red barrels. Known as “futs roux” owing to the reddish tinge of their wood, these precious barrels were used to mature Cognacs have reached the perfect stage of maturation for both the oak and the eaux-de-vie, thus allowing for an ideally balance exchange between the two.
Typically crafted from woods between 180 and 200 years old, these casks are characterized by finer, less pronounced tannins, which respects the delicacy of Martell’s clear wines. As a consequence, the aromas that develop are more subtle, more generous and more refined. For the new VSOP Aged in Red Barrels, it creates the perfect balance between fruity and spicy woody notes that come from the time it spends in the Red Barrels.
Martell’s VSOP Aged in Red Barrels is now available in major supermarkets and wine shops while the VS Single Distillery will arrive in the Philippines soon.
